The challenges First Line Managers (FLMs) face in their work differ from those of their team members. However, FLMs’ psychological connections with their work resonate with those of team members.
The graph shows that correspondence of FLMs’ sense of efficacy in their work with their team members’ scores on the Maslach Burnout Inventory. As FLMs’ efficacy improves (towards the right hand side of the chart), so do their staff members’ efficacy (the green line). Meanwhile, exhaustion and cynicism decrease.
This chart does not untangle the extent to which who influences whom. However, it does demonstrate that everyone is in this together.
