I’m a fan. Nurse Jackie says something important about nursing as a profession, a way of life, and a view of the world. It adds depth to the world of hospital dramas that provide a bedrock foundation to the tv schedule.
Nurse Jackie is not a role model, although she has the responsibility for mentoring the hapless Zoey. This series is fiction. It weaves the real challenges of hospital nursing with the tight structure of a 30-minute tv narrative. And I think practicing and prospective nurses are bright enough to know the character provides a dubious model for the profession.
